I’ve had this arrangement finished for a little while now, and I still find myself walking past it just to look at it. There’s something about a deep, moody fall palette — burgundy, rust, mustard, olive — that feels so much richer than the classic orange-and-cream look we tend to default to this time of year. If you read last week’s post on the 2026 fall color trends, this arrangement is basically that palette come to life — I wanted to actually build something with it instead of just talking about it.

But for everyone else, I wanted to break down exactly what went into it and why, because a lot of these pieces work just as well in a wreath, a smaller vase arrangement, or even a dough bowl vignette if you want to recreate the look on a smaller scale.
The Design Breakdown
The floral anchors — burgundy roses and ranunculus The Burgundy Cabbage Rose Spray is doing the heavy lifting here — those big, full blooms are exactly what gives the arrangement its “moody and romantic” feel instead of a typical crisp fall look. I paired it with the Burgundy Ranunculus Spray for a smaller, more compact bloom that fills in gaps without competing with the roses for attention.
The texture and movement — burgundy rice and cosmos Those tall, spiky burgundy plumes you see rising up through the center are the Burgundy Rice Spray — this is one of my favorite ways to add height and movement to an arrangement without adding more “flowers.” I also worked in both the Burgundy Cosmos and Orange Cosmos sprays for smaller daisy-like blooms scattered throughout — these are what keep the arrangement from feeling too heavy or formal.
The warm pop of contrast — orange sunflowers A few stems of the Orange Rust Sunflower Spray tucked in gives the whole piece a warm, sunlit contrast against all that deep burgundy. This is the same “one accent color, used sparingly” principle I always come back to — a little goes a long way.
The greenery base — Danica ivy and olive pods Underneath all the florals, the Danica Ivy Stem does double duty since it already carries both burgundy and green tones, so it blends the greenery and floral color story together instead of looking like two separate elements. I layered in the Olive Pod Stem for a more neutral, grounding green underneath everything else.
The unexpected texture — musella stem That soft, tan, folded-petal element you see near the center is the Musella Stem . It has this dried, boho look that I love mixing into fall designs — it adds a completely different texture than anything floral, and it’s what keeps this from looking like a “standard” fall arrangement.
The finishing touches — birch, berry, pumpkin, and pinecone Rounding it all out, the Birch Leaf and Berry Spray adds those golden leaf tones and little berry clusters, and the Fall Pumpkin and Pinecone Spray tucks in that little bit of pinecone texture you can spot peeking through on the right side.
Why This Palette Works
This is the same color story I walked through in last week’s fall trend post — burgundy, olive, mustard, and rust, instead of the softer neutral fall look we’ve leaned on the last few years. What I love about building an arrangement like this one is that every single stem above can also be broken apart and used in a wreath, a smaller vase, or a dough bowl vignette. You don’t have to recreate the whole piece to bring this look into your home — even two or three of these stems together will get you most of the way there.
